What is the Elara app and how does it affect your PC?

Often, you will see applications or processes running and you will have to type their name into Google to check if they should be there, if they are safe, or if you need to do a very thorough system scan. If your attempts to shut down your Windows system are blocked by an application called Elara, and you see that it is associated with the ApntEX.exe process in Task Manager, you can find out where it came from and whether it is time for a new installation.

What is the Elara app?

As you know, computers are made up of various small components, and all these small components are bought by computer manufacturers from different types of small manufacturers. It is very important to control all these small components, so the Elara application is used to manage them. Thus Elara is a touchpad control application. You will find this application on laptops that are installed by different manufacturers and all of them can use it because although the manufacturers are different, such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, but they often end up using the same hardware in their products. This program can also be seen in your device’s task manager as “ApntEX.exe”. This is not a disk or any software, but an application that is part of the touchpad driver.

Why does the Elara app prevent Windows from shutting down?

Most users don’t understand why, if the Elara app is designed to control the laptop’s touchpad only, how it prevents windows that the user was using before from closing. The answer is simple – if you have the Elara app installed on your device, it always runs in the background, regardless of what program you are using on your PC at the time. When Windows shuts down, it closes all programs and other processes that are running in the background on your laptop. But the thing is, if this process seems sensitive to the operating system, then this application will automatically prevent or cancel the closing of your window and show the user a warning message about closing a sensitive task running in the background, preventing the window from closing.

Elara closing algorithm

You can safely shut down Elara, but the app will start up again. It is recommended to shut down the system before shutting it down.

  1. Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager from the context menu.
  2. Go to the Processes tab.
  3. Search for Elara and select it.
  4. Click the Finish task button at the bottom right.

How do I set the Elara app to log out automatically?

It’s tedious to manually log out of Elara, so you may want to set it to log out automatically. This will affect all applications that can prevent the system from shutting down, not just Elara, so consider this before applying the following algorithm.

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run window.
  2. In the Run field, type regedit and press the Enter key.
  3. The registry editor will open. Navigate to the following key – HKEY_CURRENT_USER – Control Panel – Desktop.
  4. Right-click the desktop value and choose New – DWORD Value (32 bits).
  5. Name it AutoEndTasks.
  6. Double-click it and set its value to 1.
  7. Restart your system and applications will no longer be able to prevent the system from shutting down.

So, this program will not affect your laptop even if you uninstall it from your PC, but as a backup, you are also advised to have a mouse with you in case you lose the functionality of the touchpad anyway.
