MICROSOFT TEAM – an effective tool for distance learning

In recent years, the issue of obtaining quality educational services has been closely linked to the creation and development of online tools for this purpose. Microsoft Teams is a great way to combine face-to-face and distance learning. This program unites all participants in the educational process, which is free with a verified email address.

Choose a team type for collaboration in Microsoft Teams

When you start working in Microsoft Teams, you’ll be offered the option to create a new team. To do this, you will need to choose one of four options that meet certain learning objectives.

  1. The first team is “Klass”

Description: students and students work together to complete group assignments and projects.

Team owners and participants: students are both team owners and participants.

Permissions: Students can act as moderators and post messages. They are granted recording permissions only in certain areas.

Features: notepad, tasks, dialogs, files, video and audio calls, chat, tabbing.

Purposes: assigning and checking assignments, exporting grades, class communication, posting announcements, conducting tests, group work, inviting virtual experts, providing access to content and organizing it.

  1. The second team is the Professional Learning Community (PLC).

Description: a professional community of teachers who cooperate with each other.

Team owners and participants: teachers form teams and invite students and pupils to join them.

Permissions: the same permissions for everyone.

Features: OneNote notepad, dialogs, files, meetings, video and audio calls, chat, pin new tabs.

Learning objectives: professional cooperation, communication, posting announcements, sharing the results of cooperation, organizing remote meetings, group work.

  1. The third team is “Personnel”

Description: administration of an educational institution.

Team owners and participants: the heads of the educational institution are the owners of the teams. They are the ones who add other employees as group members.

Permissions: managers have permission to post messages, participants can only post in certain areas.

Features: notepad, dialogs, files, meetings, video and audio calls, chat.

Learning objectives: diagnostics and analysis of participants’ professional development, communication, posting announcements, group work, organization of remote meetings.

  1. The fourth team is “Other”

Description: participants in the educational process cooperate in groups and circles.

Team owners and members: students and teachers can create teams and add other members.

Permissions: participants have the same rights and permissions. Managers have permission to publish messages, participants can only print them in certain areas.

Features: notepad, dialogs, files, meetings, video and audio calls, chat.

Learning objectives: collaboration and communication between team members, posting announcements, sharing files, organizing remote meetings, group work.

Algorithm for creating a team for a specific scenario

  1. Select TEAMS – JOIN OR CREATE A TEAM – CREATE A TEAM.
  2. Choose one of the suggested templates that matches the team’s scenario.
  3. The next step is to choose privacy: public or private.
  4. Add information to your team description.
  5. If you used a group template, you need to change the channel names to further customize the team.
  6. Click CREATE.

Each team (out of the four mentioned above) consists of two types of channels: standard channels (which each team member has access to) and private channels, whose main purpose is to have a separate, targeted conversation with a specific audience.

In turn, each channel is built around a specific topic chosen by the head of that group. The topics can be completely different, for example, the title of the work being studied or “group events”. Meetings and conversations are held here, and it is possible to work with files.

The tabs at the top of the channel show your favorite files, programs, and services that you need to work with.

How do I add tabs?

To add specific tabs, click the plus sign next to the tabs.

How to fix and detach the channel?

If you have more than one channel, it’s best to pin the one that is most important to you.

  • Select it from the list of those you have, and then select OTHER CHANNELS – PIN.
  • unmute a channel – select it – select OTHER CHANNELS – UNMUTE.

Create and format posts and announcements

  • Click the NEW CONVERSATION button.
  • Type your text and select the FORMAT.
  • the entered text is displayed as an announcement, select the type of record ADVERTISEMENT.
  • Enter a title and subtitle, and choose a color or background image.
  • Adjust your post using the options in the Font category.
  • Click the SEND button.

Setting up chats

Chats can be 1:1 or group conversations, depending on the situation.

  • Select NEW CHAT.
  • Enter the name or group name of the person you want to start a conversation with and click the down arrow.
  • Choose a video call or a voice call to call someone directly from the chat.
