Electronic book, eBook
– is a version of a book in its digital format; the name of a group of specialized compact tablet computer devices used to display text and graphic information. Modern devices are multifunctional, i.e. they are equipped with a touch screen and allow not only reading text but also editing it.

Advantages and disadvantages of e-books

Advantages.	Disadvantages
Compact and efficient. The device weighs less than a printed book. In addition, one “reader” can contain hundreds or thousands of texts.	Slower reading and text processing speed.
Image settings. The user can adjust the font size and type at will.	These devices are quite sensitive to any physical damage.
Additional features. You can search the text, follow hyperlinks, make electronic bookmarks, and built-in programs such as a speech synthesizer allow you to voice what you write.	Some publishers release electronic versions of books with a significant delay, which creates certain inconveniences for book lovers.
The cost of the text. Many texts are free or much cheaper.	High initial cost.
Accessibility. Texts can be downloaded from digital libraries at a convenient time for the user when connected to the Internet.	Some models use DRM, which imposes restrictions, including on fair use.

Most modern eBooks have a minimum display thickness and diagonal of 6-7 inches. However, there are models with a diagonal of up to 10 inches, which allows the user to work with graphic images and pdf documents faster and better.

eBooks are divided by display type:

1. E Ink Vizplex is a basic technology characterized by medium quality and low price.
2. E Ink Pearl is a second-generation technology that is of higher quality. The display of this device has a high contrast, which makes the reading experience close to a printed book. The pages have become much faster to refresh.
3. E Ink Triton, Triton 2 – these gadgets became colored because color filters were used in their creation.
4. E Ink Carta – the main feature of the “book” is high contrast and resolution.
5. Mobius is a technology for creating displays using plastic rather than glass.

You will notice that eBooks differ from each other in another way, namely the type of backlight. Some of them have a built-in backlight, which solves the problem of insufficient lighting in the room quite well. In these gadgets, the light is not emitted by the screen, but is directed to it using LEDs. There is an economical version of the backlight, namely a small flashlight that is attached to the e-book case.

In 2013, a number of studies were conducted to determine the degree of impact on vision of various types of e-readers. As a result, scientists have concluded that the use of devices based on e-ink and paper technology is lower than that of other gadgets.

So, if you love to read and want to do it with maximum comfort, you should give preference to a specialized book – a small, lightweight device with a high-quality and modern screen that does not require frequent recharging…
