Windows 11 will learn to automatically save battery power

Windows 11 will take care of your battery wisely – even when it’s not groaning from lack of power.

Microsoft seems to have decided that it’s time to stop trusting the user to make decisions about energy saving. Now Windows 11 itself will do it – “smartly” and “dynamically,” and most importantly, without warning. In the next update, the operating system will get a new mode called Adaptive Energy Saver.

Unlike the good old Battery Saver, which politely waited for the charge to drop to a critical level, the new feature is not so patient. It can turn on even when the battery is still full and “full” and does not even suspect anything wrong. If the system “deems it appropriate,” it will simply save power. So you may not even notice how Windows is already saving power for you while you’re just reading email or watching memes.

Well, now your computer will decide when it’s time to “curb your appetite”. In other words, the era of digital “mom, I’ll do it myself” is coming to an end – Windows knows better.

Microsoft assures that the new power saving mode will not affect the screen brightness and will not spoil the user experience. Instead, Windows will quietly slow down background program activity and system tasks, so your laptop will run longer, and you won’t even notice that anything has changed except for the operating time.

The feature has already appeared in a test build for Windows Insider members (Canary channel) and works only on devices with a battery. Users will be able to turn it on manually or rely on the automatic mode. For the rest of the world, the new feature will be available in 2025, along with a major Windows update.

Adaptive Energy Saver is another step toward letting Windows decide what’s best for you. Relax and enjoy… Of course, if everything works as it should and it doesn’t cause crashes due to background programs slowing down.
